LEAD Internship is an opportunity for college-aged students who desire to grow in their relationship with God and receive a first-class education. Students will be rooted and grounded in the ministry of Church of the King, while taking accredited classes through Oral Roberts University.

About LEAD Internship

LEAD challenges you to develop your LEADERSHIP potential the way Jesus prepared for His ministry as described in Luke 2:52, which states, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” For that reason, we focus specifically on the same four areas:

Wisdom – Intellectual
Stature – Physical
Favor With God – Spiritual
Favor With Men – Social

LEAD will equip you with the essential life skills for whatever career or ministry path you choose to pursue.

LEAD deliberately puts you in a position to EXPERIENCE God intimately while gaining practical skills in a community-rich environment. The core benefit of LEAD’s program is that it gives you the opportunity to combine biblical scholarship with real-life application. During your time at LEAD you will have the opportunity to serve and be trained in many different areas, such as:

  • Youth Ministry
  • College & 20’s
  • Global REACH - World Missions
  • City REACH - New Orleans Region
  • Worship & Production
  • Media & Creative Arts
  • Children’s Ministry
  • Administration
  • And much more!

At LEAD Internship, we believe a great leader has interactive, hands-on experience as well as a solid ACADEMIC foundation. During your time as a student, you will receive an excellent, classroom education from pastors and teachers who are dedicated to your success in the ministry. Through our partnership with Oral Roberts University, students have an incredible opportunity to take accredited classes to apply towards their degree. After you complete LEAD Internship, our desire is that you are fully equipped with experience both inside and outside the classroom as you pursue your future in ministry and life.

At LEAD Internship, students have the opportunity to grow in every area of life – spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally through DISCIPLESHIP. Our focus is a holistic approach to educational training by deliberately planting you in an environment that allows you to spend time getting to know like-minded believers on a personal level. You will pray together, serve together, laugh together, and cry together as you grow closer to God and impact hundreds of people for Christ as a team. INTERNS FULLY EXPERIENCE THE REALITIES OF WORKING AT A CHURCH FULL-TIME, AND GET TO BE A PART OF STAFF MEETINGS, AS WELL AS HAVE HIGH ACCESS TO STAFF FOR TRAINING AND MENTORING

What To Expect

LEAD is a nine-month intensive designed to provide experience and growth opportunities in three specific areas: 1) personal development 2) leadership training 3) practical ministry.

The classroom environment combines spiritual formation classes, along with fully accredited Bible classes. Staff pastors and other church, community or business leaders will teach the spiritual formation classes. These classes include lectures, group discussions and analysis of practical ministry experiences. Interns will apply and enroll directly to Oral Roberts and be classified as college students, which means they will have access to all loans, scholarships and any other forms of financial aid. During the course of the term, interns will read and interact with at least six books and complete a variety of special projects.

All service times will be followed by group discussion during the next classroom session to develop each student’s philosophy of ministry and provide valuable insight and perspective to the vision, values and practices of Church of The King. Interns will also ... Read More participate in at least one other ministry at Church of the King. Ministry Tracks include: Children’s Ministry, Events, Media, Pastoral Ministry, Production, Student Ministry (Youth & C20) and Worship. Previous ministry experience and areas of interest will be taken into consideration while choosing a ministry track. Interns should plan on attending one service as their regular worship service.

Interns should plan on participating in church wide special events (Dream Team Celebration, REACH Weekend, Women’s Event, etc.) throughout the year and a mission trip in the spring. While the program is intended to be challenging, we are committed to helping every intern successfully complete the term and adapt to a manageable workload. We also hope to create a healthy environment that encourages team skills, strong friendships and a deeper commitment to our spiritual family. Participation in LEAD is not a guarantee of employment at Church of The King.

Interns are encouraged to communicate in advance with any questions relating to potential scheduling conflicts, classroom projects, relational challenges, financial concerns or overall progress in the program to ensure their successful progress in the program.

FAQ

The time after high school and early into a college career is one of the most important seasons in your life. It can be a period of growth, maturation, and self-discovery that sets the course of your life. A gap-year is a year set aside to gain valuable life experience and prepare for adulthood. Whether you need more time to prepare for college or are transitioning from college into a career, a gap-year program like LEAD is just for you. The LEAD Internship will help ease you into your next life-stage through engaging classes, practical experiences, and Christ-centered community.

Lead Internship is ideal for students 18-25 years old who are graduating from high school; in college but not sure why; or college graduates who desire to have a season of life dedicated to God before they begin their careers. Students should display a strong desire to allow God to shape their life and be currently seeking opportunities to grow, lead, and serve others within their community.

LEAD begins on August 15 and ends May 14.

Interns will be attending a diverse assortment of weekly spiritual formation classes, along with an accredited class from Oral Roberts University, receiving ministry training from Church of the King staff and experienced Christian leaders, pastors and missionaries from around the world and obtaining extensive hands-on experience by serving throughout Church of the King.

The goal of LEAD is to disciple, train, equip, and launch single young leaders into the ministry to which they have been called. LEAD is designed to bring forth the next generation of worship and creative arts leaders, pastors, teachers, missionaries, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. Some graduates with a call to serve in a local church may go on to pursue full-time occupational ministry. However, the goal is to produce followers of Christ who are equipped to lead and impact their world for Jesus in whatever field they are called.

Yes interns can work a part time job on Friday and/or Saturday. We ask that your job or school classes not interfere with your other commitments in LEAD, as that is your priority. We will work with you to optimize your schedule.

LEAD Internship is a unique educational environment that will challenge you to know, understand, and defend a biblical worldview. Your academic experience takes place in a classroom setting and classes are through Oral Roberts University, a world-class college dedicated to preparing men and women for effective leadership and Christ-like servant hood.

Jesus made it clear in the scriptures that we are to go into all the world and this is a major focus of LEAD. Students will find that the overseas mission trip will be a highlight of their LEAD Internship experience. Participation in the overseas trip is not mandatory but it is highly encouraged.

You will be able to receive transferable credits through Oral Roberts University but the school you choose to attend after LEAD will determine whether or not they will accept your credits.

We highly encourage our students to invite friends and family to invest in this crucial part of their lives. Students will be constantly involved in ministry here at Church of the King. This makes for a great investment for your friends and family. We encourage students to write a letter, make phone calls or personal visits with friends and family asking for their financial support. We have sample support letters upon request to help students formulate their own letter.
