The Beginning

Church of the King is about people. The incarnate mission of Christ was about people. Our mission statement of Reaching People, Building Lives has been our guiding theme since 1999. Over the years, God has blessed us with incredible growth, expanding to eight locations across the southern United States, and even in Cape Town, South Africa – welcoming more than 8,500 people each weekend.

The Property

In 2006, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we had the opportunity to purchase The Jerusalem Temple – a historical landmark property in the heart of New Orleans on the iconic St. Charles Avenue. Though the building needed much repair, we knew that this location was pivotal to our mission to serve the people of New Orleans in a greater way.

The Compassion

This landmark property sits at a crossroads in the city, where wealth and poverty intersect. Recognizing the deep needs of the surrounding community, ministry efforts began almost immediately in 2006, serving those under-resourced and vulnerable.

Over the years, we’ve provided free medical, dental, and veterinary care alongside rescue efforts for those involved in human trafficking. Annually, we host events that bring practical help to families, including back-to-school backpack distributions, Thanksgiving meal boxes, and special Christmas outreaches.

The City

New Orleans is a city like no other—rich in culture, music, and traditions, with a vibrant mix of people from all walks of life. Home to more than 50,000 students across thirteen colleges and universities, it’s a true melting pot of heritage and beliefs. Nearly one million people live within a 30-minute drive of downtown, creating a dynamic and diverse community.

A 2010 study revealed a striking demographic statistic: 44% of the population claimed no religious affiliation, a dramatic rise from just 8% in 2000. This change followed the influx of new residents after Hurricane Katrina, reshaping the spiritual landscape of the city.

For generations, New Orleans has been known as a place where “anything goes,” but we believe it is also a place where God can move in extraordinary ways. The need for spiritual renewal has never been greater.

The transformational opportunity is here. The time is now!
